Carissa (she/her) is a Queer maker, writer, community arts organizer and graduate of OCAD University’s Material Art and Design: Fibre program.
Over the past ten years, Carissa has worked with artists across various mediums in a variety of spaces from professional gallery’s to pop up exhibitions across Canada and the US. She has always been interested in connecting artists to unique opportunities, and to each other.
Using her skills in arts administration, organization and coordination, combined with her love of collaboration and connection, she has moved home to NS to start an artist residency and retreat space. The space is currently being called Meadowville House and is located in Pictou County.
Feminist Art Collective
Since 2013, Carissa has been involved in the Feminist Art Collective (FAC) where she initially acted as the student liaison between the conference and OCADU, helping to book the University for FAC. Carissa organized the first Made by Feminists makers market at the 2015 Conference which led to a partnership with the Gladstone Hotel to host markets in 2018 and 2019. She was the coordinator for the 2020 Feminist Art Festival, an event that consisted of an exhibition, film night and conference and featured more than 70 multidisciplinary artists from 15 countries.
It is through FAC that she has realized her love of fostering partnerships and providing platforms for artists and creatives on the margins.
